What are the signs of ADHD?

ADHD (Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder) is a condition that affects children and adults. More than being simply a sign of an ‘energetic kid’, ADHD symptoms include: inability to focus for more than a few moments at a time, impulsivity to the point of danger, and an apparent ‘need’ to be in such constant motion that others around the person with ADHD are frequently frustrated.

Contrary to popular opinion, a person with ADHD is sometimes able to actually sit still, focus and ‘be good’ while playing a very engaging video game or involved in a hobby or job that is full of very interesting stuff (like flying a plane for an experienced pilot). This is because people with ADHD can ‘hyper-focus’ – tune out the whole world for the fun stuff. The only trouble with this is that much of the world is rather dull. Schools cannot compete with how fun the popular video games can be, and many jobs are full of routines that are sometimes tough for the average person to put up with, let alone the trouble an ADHD person can have with repetition and boredom.

This simple test is a way to help you determine if you or your child has ADHD. If it turns out that you may have Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder, contact us at River Park Psychology Consultants – we can help.
